Process Engineer

Process Engineer

   My client, located in the Hickory, North Carolina area, is looking for Process Engineer to join its team. This person provides technical expertise to specify, improve, implement, and validate new and existing manufacturing process equipment, tools, and lean methodologies to meet delivery demands and quality requirements at optimal/competitive cost. Requirements:

  • BS Engineering required (prefer mechanical engineering)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Able to calculate BOM’s, routing, costing requirements for new and existing products.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles required, along with the ability to lead or work with cross-functional teams
  • Collaboration, organization, and business acumen required

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in determining capital budgeting requirements and recommendations; Justify, manage, and execute capital projects; manage related contractor work.
  • Research, implement and validate new manufacturing tools and manufacturing equipment technologies.  Support manufacturing on requests to improve manufacturability, scrap reduction or improve production rates
  • Partner with Industrial Engineer to set standard labor and equipment rates, labor utilization and develop cost estimates.
  • Partner with Product Engineering to determine manufacturing feasibility and equipment capacity.
  • Partner with manufacturing to imbed lean concepts (SMED, 5S, Kaizen, TQM), optimize material flow within processes, and ensure machine availability and effectiveness
  • Partner with manufacturing to generate, approve, maintain and communicate/train technical documents (SOP’s, quality instructions) in compliance with ISO-9001 and TS-16949
  • Partner with Product Engineering and Quality in the automotive APQP process.  Lead, implement and maintain process flow diagram and PFMEA activities.
  • Ensure process capability requirements are met for new and existing equipment and processes.  Implement autonomation techniques.
  • Ensure safety for new and existing equipment and processes.
  • Prepare and present metrics as requested.
  • Work with Product Engineering and Tooling Engineer to develop fixturing, gaging, and tooling for new and existing products
  • Review engineering design changes and recommend modifications to minimize cost and improve production efficiencies.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing of product.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
