 My client is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to join their product development team in Apex, NC. This position will contribute to a wide range of product development activities, from design and development to prototyping and testing. You will work in a team environment to take ideas from concept to production, handling multiple projects simultaneously.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (electrical discipline) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in industrial controls and automation.
  • Experienced in PLC architecture and programming.
  • Skilled in implementation, programming, and integration of VFDs
  • Understanding of digital and analog process instrumentation such as proximity sensors, photo electrics, encoders, load cells, transducers, and various feedback devices.
  • Knowledge of closed-loop processes and PID control principles.
  • Experience in HMI development with an intuitive interface, diagnostics, information, and maintenance functionality for streamlined machine operation.
  • Understanding of industrial LANs and network architecture
  • Ability to read and interpret pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD software for producing detailed control system drawings.
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and current technology to enhance control systems.
  • Methodical and analytical troubleshooting skills.
  • Manageable, cooperative, and self-starting personality.
  • Professional attitude with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule control systems development for new and existing machines, including hardware and software systems, options, and configurations.
  • Create and customize control system designs.
  • Design, perform, and lead proof-of-technology tests; analyze and correlate data, prepare reports, and make recommendations.
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel assembly layout drawings including Bills of Materials and dimensioned detail drawings. Ensure that documentation is clear, complete, accurate, and compliant with company and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in multi-discipline teams addressing specific design or process issues.
  • Incorporate VFDs and servo controllers in a multi-axis design for precise speed regulation and motion control.
  • Develop, install, and test PLC and HMI code at our production facility prior to shipment.
  • Prepare and update machine documentation and procedures as required.
  • Participate in R&D projects.
  • Interact with suppliers to ensure proper selection and compatibility of components and devices used in controls systems.
  • Collaborate with other Engineers and Field Service Technicians in all aspects of equipment operation, transferring knowledge to other members of the Engineering department.
  • Assist with machine installation, commissioning, field troubleshooting, and customer training as required.
